Simone Parola

PhD candidate

DAD Architectural and urban design

Simone Parola is an architect who graduated from Politecnico di Torino in 2019. His master’s thesis, “MULTI-MODAL TRANSPORT HUBS: The Japanese Case and the Possibilities of Air Rights” explores the spatial opportunities of railway-occupied areas within contemporary cities. Through international and parametric-comparative analysis, his work investigates these spaces’ potential, culminating in a design proposal for Torino Porta Nuova railway station. To develop his thesis research, he completed two study periods abroad at ENSAL in Lyon (FR) and the University of Tokyo (JP).

In addition to his academic activities, he has gained significant professional experience in various architectural firms. In Tokyo, he collaborated with Kengo Kuma and Associates, while in Paris, he worked at LAN Architecture. These roles spanned multiple functions and stages of the architectural design process, enriching his expertise across various project scales and typologies.

Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Architecture. History and Design at Politecnico di Torino, under the supervision of Elena Vigliocco. His research focuses on the analysis of reuse and decommissioning of “productive” heritage assets, particularly those undergoing abandonment or approaching the end of their life cycle.
