Paolo Bianco

Paolo Bianco is a designer and researcher based in Turin and the Alta Langa region. In 2021, he graduated with honours from the Politecnico di Torino with a degree in Architecture for Sustainable Design, with a thesis which, taking the Bormida Valley – situated between Piedmont and Liguria – as its starting point, explores the use of typological-morphological analysis as a tool capable of examining the widespread dynamics of territorial fragility in inland areas and, more generally, across the entire Apennines.
He is currently a PhD student at DASP – the Doctorate in Architecture. History and Design at the Politecnico di Torino and a Visiting Researcher at Fundación RIA in Santiago de Compostela. His research explores the transformation of agricultural production spaces from a multidimensional and post-productivist perspective, examining how farms, agricultural holdings and rural areas are changing under the pressure of broader economic, environmental and social dynamics. Conducted in southern Piedmont and Galicia, the research aims to understand how contemporary agricultural practices are redefining not only family economies and the social role of farms, but also their physical dimension and the relationship between production, landscape and habitation.
Since 2020, she has been a Teaching Assistant in architectural and urban design at the Polytechnic University of Turin and, since 2026, on the Master’s course in EcoDesign at the IED – European Institute of Design in Turin. Since 2020, he has been organising workshops on architecture, graphic design and self-build projects in the Alta Langa area of Cuneo and around Lake Varese, fostering links between local authorities and various organisations in the Italian and European design sectors. He has also gained professional experience at the BDR Bureau studio, with which he still collaborates occasionally.
In 2022, for the ‘Contrasto’ project, developed in collaboration with architect Agnese Caprioli, he was selected by the ADI Design Museum in Milan for the exhibition ‘Italy: A New Collective Landscape’, a showcase of the 100 new Italian designers under 35.
