Erica Mangione is a postdoctoral research fellow in Urban Studies at FULL (under the Interuniversity Department of Regional & Urban Studies and Planning – DIST).
In 2022 she gets a PhD in Urban and Regional Development with a thesis titled “Housing the student population in the post-industrial university city”.
She is project manager and researcher of the project LINUS – Living the University City (Italian Research Projects of National Relevance – PRIN, Next Generation EU funds), investigating student housing conditions, dynamics and policies, comparing the Italian cities of Milano Bologna Padova and Torino.
Between 2020 and 2023 she is part of the Polito team in the H2020 project SMARTDEST (smartdest.eu) on tourist and student mobilities related forms of social exclusion in 7 European cities. In this context, she works on the implementation of an Urban Living Lab on planning inclusive solutions and impact reduction of the nighttime activities, in the city of Turin.
Further research activity and interests focus on the mutual relationship between the university the city and the student population in relation to the socio-spatial transformations they produce; the Purpose Build Student Accommodation as a new form of student housing and the urban geographies of inclusion/exclusion they produce.
