From African City to Africa of Cities.

What is the meaning of ‘African city’ today? What can we learn from urban Africa? What tools do we need for studying and understanding urban Africa?
These questions are driven by the necessity of considering African urbanisation as part of a global process. New possible interpretations of contemporary urban Africa are arising from the opportunities offered by the merging of traditional urban analysis and new tools and resources based on the web. These different narratives and images are shaping the new identity of a dynamic and rapidly developing Africa.
The seminar is organised in cooperation with the Piedmont Centre for African Studies (CSA). On this occasion, Matteo Robiglio, Cecilia Pennacini (UniTo – CSA), Francesca De Filippi, Miriam Bodino, and Arturo Pavani will present the 81st issue of ‘Territorio’, the DASTU PoliMi review. This issue introduces a selection of essays presented at the interdisciplinary conference “Urban Africa: economies, Populations, cultures” promoted from CSA and held in Turin in 2015.
