Urban Desires is the dissemination and popularization platform of the Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning \u2013 DIST, designed to welcome, support and disseminate initiatives in dialogue with society. With the event \u201cUrban Desires \u2013 Imagining, Designing, Understanding the City\u201d (8-9 November 2024) the platform will be inaugurated by opening the gates of the Valentino Castle, a UNESCO heritage site and the seat of the Department, to reflect on the \u201cdesirable\u201d city, between the criticalities of the present and the responsibilities of the future. As part of the event, FULL is organising a reflection on the management of nightlife in the city divided into three moments.<\/p>\n\n

1 \u2013 Cities after dark: Turin and London discuss the politics of the night \n \n<\/h4>\n\n

In the collective imagination, the night still retains a negative connotation \u2013 a legacy of a not too distant past, in which cities at night did not know the richness and variety of human experiences and activities that we all experience today. It is precisely because of this prejudice that there is still little ability to fully understand the night dimension of cities. Through a dialogue aimed at stimulating a comparison between Turin and London, we try to \u201cshed light\u201d on the topic and to broaden the reflection on the nocturnal city, understood as a peculiar space-time, little known and neglected by city government and planning practices. \n \n<\/p>\n\n

2 \u2013 Reimagining Turin After Dark: A Holistic Approach to Reshaping the City\u2019s Life at Night \n \n<\/h4>\n\n

As a post-industrial city with a dense concentration of nocturnal activities, Turin has long been confronted with the problem of balancing the cultural, economic and political forces that shape its vibrant nocturnal ecosystem. The city\u2019s night economy offers immense potential for cultural innovation, economic growth and social inclusion. However, to fully realise this potential, Turin needs to take a holistic approach to key challenges such as the spatial concentration of nightlife and limited nightlife infrastructure. Drawing on years of experience in the field of nightlife governance and urban design, Andreina Seijas offers the audience international examples of successful nightlife strategies to demonstrate the transformative power of participatory methods in promoting vibrant, inclusive and sustainable after-dark environments. \n \n<\/p>\n\n
