The research focuses on the analysis of private housing stock in the metropolitan area of Turin. The primary objective is to analyse the themes and challenges of contemporary housing as experienced by the so-called “grey area,” namely that segment of the lower-middle class which, although above the maximum income thresholds for access to public/social housing, nevertheless finds it extremely difficult to navigate the private housing market.
The work relies on web scraping operations in order to obtain data – on which to construct maps and subsequent analytical operations (also of a comparative nature with reference to other Italian cities) – relating to the private housing supply both for rent and for sale, identifying the quality, quantity, and location of housing accessible to different types of lower-middle income families.
